A prairie farm girl by birth, I came to the west coast twenty years ago to be closer to the ocean, and get away from the cold. While I can still get nostalgic for wheat fields blowing in the wind, I'm completely hooked on big trees and mountains, both for recreational and spiritual reasons. (Nature is my sanctuary)
I also came out west to study theatre but decided to pursue my greater interests in psychology and counselling. I first worked with children and adolescents in a variety of settings before focusing on counselling adults. In the midst of all this I became an environmental activist/educator, organizing public events and conferences, on a variety of urban issues.
Among the things that I love to do (in addition to being a therapist), are growing vegetables, yoga, cycling, hiking, cross country skiing, kayaking, reading fiction and most of all spending time with friends and family.
My formal educational background includes a Master's degree in Psychology and two bachelor degrees: Family Studies and Theatre Arts. I passionately pursue advanced education, certification training, and personal development on an ongoing basis.
I have received all the required training for certification in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and have completed level 1 training in EFT – Emotionally Focused Couples counselling, and level 1 in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. I will continue these trainings onto level 2.
I am a professional member in good standing of the B.C Association of Clinical Counsellors (BCACC) and subscribe to all their ethical and professional standards for the effective practice of therapy. My registration number as a registered clinical counsellor (RCC) for the province of British Columbia is #2264. For more information about BCACC you can check out their website at www.bc-counsellors.org
I have worked with children, adolescents and couples in some type of therapeutic capacity, for over 20 years, however for the last ten years I have worked mostly with adults who have seen me for:
- Childhood abuse
- Drug and alcohol dependency
- Eating issues
- Grief and loss
- Gay, lesbian and transgendered issues
I continue to do my own healing work because I strongly believe that I cannot help people unless I'm willing to continually engage in self-reflection and do the hard work that is sometimes required to bring about change. I strive to live a balanced and healthy life and wish the same for you.
